FORMAT MODE: 18.0 seconds total, 16:9, four segments, three HARD CUTs,
real-time motion throughout. Live-action documentary realism. No 3D,
no cartoon, no VFX gloss, no concept-art rendering.
CAMERA PACKAGE: Shot on ARRI ALEXA 35, ARRI Signature Prime lenses,
open gate, LogC4 captured and graded to a low-contrast filmic Rec.709.
Native 17-stop dynamic range holding both the blown stellar disk and
deep shadow detail in one exposure. Slight halation on the star, real
optical veiling glare, faint sensor grain. White balance locked at
3200K — the red cast is the scene, do NOT neutralize it.
WORLD PHYSICS — apply to every frame:
- The star TRAPPIST-1 is a dull orange-red disk 2.2 degrees wide,
four times wider than Earth's sun, with a soft mottled limb and
visible dark starspots. Its surface is dim enough to look at.
- The star is FIXED. It does not move, rise, set, or drift for the
entire 18 seconds. It sits half-sunk on the horizon line.
- Total illumination equals Earth twenty minutes after sunset. Dim,
legible, never bright. No white light anywhere in frame.
- Sky is dark olive-yellow fading to charcoal at zenith, NOT blue,
NOT red. Stars and two planetary disks are visible in daytime sky.
- Shadows are hard-edged, extremely long, and ABSOLUTELY STATIC.
They point the same direction in every shot and never shorten,
rotate, or soften. No shadow movement of any kind.
- Cloud banks lit from beneath glow ember-orange against the dark
olive sky.
- Gravity 0.82g: dust settles slowly, cloth falls slowly, strides
are long and slightly floating.
0.0–4.5s — WIDE, locked, 29mm, low eye-level.
A settlement strung along the terminator ridge of a rocky world:
low-slung wind-braced stone-and-composite structures, all windows
facing one direction toward the star. Curved heliostat mirrors on
masts, all angled identically at the fixed star, none tracking or
turning. The huge red stellar disk sits half below the horizon,
directly behind the settlement, backlighting it. Long black shadows
stretch from every building toward camera, motionless. Steady
lateral wind drags dust and low fog across the foreground left to
right. Two human figures in insulated hooded coats walk between
structures, rim-lit red on one side, pure black on the other. HARD CUT.
4.5–9.0s — MEDIUM TRACKING, 47mm, slow lateral dolly right.
Terraced crop beds under low glass. The vegetation is near-black and
deep maroon, broad flat leaves, absorbing across the whole spectrum.
A woman in her forties, weathered face, bare hands, moves along the
row checking leaves. Her face is lit only by the low red star from
frame left: hard red key on one cheek, the other side falling to
near-black with faint fill bouncing off pale gravel. Behind her,
supplemental deep-red grow strips glow between the beds. Her breath
condenses. She straightens, looks off toward the star, keeps
working. HARD CUT.
9.0–13.5s — CLOSE-UP, 75mm, shallow focus, slight handheld breath.
A child, ten years old, standing at the edge of the settlement,
head tilted up. Skin rendered in true ARRI colorimetry under
monochromatic red key — warm highlights, cool blue-grey shadow
from skylight, no orange plastic look. Eyes catch a small specular
of the star. Reflected in the child's pupil: a tiny black dot
crossing the huge red disk. The child does not move much; only
the eyes track. Wind moves hair across the face. HARD CUT.
13.5–18.0s — WIDE LOW-ANGLE, 29mm, slow 15-degree tilt up from the
settlement rooftops to the sky.
The reveal: the dark olive sky holds a gibbous sister planet one
and a half times the width of Earth's moon, cloud-banded and pale
salmon, sitting near the horizon opposite the star. A second
smaller crescent planet hangs higher. Faint stars behind them. On
the far side of frame the fixed red stellar disk still sits half-
sunk, with a small black planetary silhouette a fraction of its
width transiting slowly across it. Camera settles. Nothing rises.
Nothing sets. Hold on the still sky.
AUDIO: continuous low wind with a steady directional hiss, never
gusting to silence. Sparse distant metal creak of mast structures.
Muffled footsteps on gravel. One low sub-bass drone under the final
shot. No music sting, no dialogue, no swells.
NEGATIVE CONSTRAINTS: no blue sky, no white or yellow sunlight, no
golden hour, no sunrise or sunset motion, no moving or lengthening
shadows, no lens flare streaks, no sun crossing the frame, no
green foliage, no Earth vegetation, no spacesuits, no visible
spacecraft, no glowing alien technology, no neon, no floating
holograms, no anamorphic sci-fi aesthetic, no camera shake beyond
subtle handheld breath, no cartoon or CGI surfacing, no plastic skin.
